DAVE SWARBRICK and PETER BELLAMY: joining up for tour
DAVE
SWARBRICK set off on his first solo tour of Britain this week with members of
Fairport Convention, Beryl and Roger Marriott from his days in a Birmingham
ceilidh band - and Peter Bellamy.
So the
curious alliance between Swarb and Bellamy, which has been talked about since
Swarb was engaged to play fiddle on the sessions of “The Transports”,
finally comes about.
Fairport’s
ace fiddler has been gradually accepting more solo work since his first
Transatlantic solo album a couple of years ago, which was followed by a Queen
Elizabeth Hall concert.
His
informal performance with several other musicians was a highlight of the recent
London Festival, and he has another solo album in the pipeline to be released by
Sonet.
But
that doesn’t mean he’s any less committed to Fairport, who have a new album,
“Tippler’s Tales,” released on May 12 for which the group and the people
around them have high hopes. A British Fairport tour also opens on May 3.
Next
week’s dates for Swarbrick’s solo concerts are at the Empire, Sunderland
(April 19), Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park, London (21), and the New Theatre,
Cardiff (23).
